Many people suffer from body dysmorphic disorder, a disease in which they feel ugly and/or fat. Now I’m sure we’ve all had those days, right? Well, BDD extends to the extreme. Look at people with anorexia or bulimia. I, personally, suffer from it. I was bulimic as an adolescent, and to this day I cannot stand looking in the mirror. I can’t stand people seeing me without makeup and I constantly think people are judging my looks. I feel fat when I weigh 150 pounds AND when I’m down to 100 pounds. Nothing changes this view.
Many people with BDD, depression or low self esteem turn to plastic surgery to help improve their image. Some say it will not fix things. I personally think it depends on each and every situation. Some people become addicted to plastic surgery, thinking at some point they will like themselves. In those cases, it is not going to help. However, if your genes are working against you and you suffer from obesity that you cannot seem to improve via diet and exercise, turning to a gastric bypass or liposuction is not the end of the world. Sometimes removing that skin tag or getting laser hair removal will make us less self conscious. In turn, we feel more comfortable in public and it improves our social skills. There are two sides to every stereotype.

Scrub uniforms are important uniforms that ensure hospital settings stay sanitary, not to mention the ease of finding a doctor or nurse. Most hospital employees are required to wear a specific scrub set to stand out to their patients. Many psychiatric patients that get admitted are only allowed to wear scrubs during the first 24 hours of their stay, but the upside to this is the comfort of these scrubs!
Cotton scrubs tend to be the most common uniform choice for medical facilities, due to their ease of cleaning and breathability. Scrubs can also be worn by patients who have no clothing or need to let a scar air.
Many local stores and online retailers, such as http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/ now sell scrubs to consumers.
Most medical specialties require doctors or nurses to wear scrubs. What makes psychiatric facilities different? Many workers and nurses at inpatient psychiatric wards are not seen wearing hospital uniforms. They generally wear street clothing, or business casual clothing.
This is generally due to the fact that psychiatric patients are medically stable, often requiring little to no medical treatments beside medication and talk or group therapies.
